CHICAGO – The University of Kentucky’s twin recruiting sensations – Aaron and Andrew Harrison – combined to serve up nine assists and facilitate the high-flying act of the McDonald’s All-American West team in a 110-99 victory over the East on Wednesday at the United Center.
Point guard Andrew Harrison, had 10 points and four assists and shooting guard Aaron Harrison had six points and five assists in impressive performances. They were two of a record six UK commitments or signees in the boys’ game.
New Arizona commitment Aaron Gordon – a explosive player who’d had UK in his final four before picking the Pacific-12 Wildcats on Tuesday – put on a dunk show while scoring 24 points and winning game MVP honors for the West. He hammered home a lob from Andrew Harrison in the first half and had a 360 slam on a breakaway in the second half.
He barely missed a first-half jam in which he passed the ball through his legs while in the air.
UK’s top remaining target, Andrew Wiggins, had a series of air acts himself, slamming and jamming his way to 19 points for the East. Wiggins is considering UK, Florida State, Kansas and North Carolina.
Wiggins was on the same team as UK commitment Julius Randle, whose reverse, two-handed dunk off a lob from Florida signee Kasey Hill was one of the plays of the game.
Randle finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
UK commitment Dakari Johnson had 12 points, mostly on traditional post baskets and not highlight-reel dunks. He also had five rebounds, and it was a solid, fitting performance for a player who describes himself as a true center.
UK signee James Young had six points and four rebounds for the West, although he missed a breakaway tomahawk try in the closing seconds.
Marcus Lee, the sixth Kentucky-bound player in the game, had two points, after a baseline dunk in the final minute.
Indiana signee Noah Vonleh had three points and six rebounds for the East team.
